On Tuesday April 1st the SUNY Orange Colts faced off against the Skylanders of Sussex County Community College. This was the first of three games that the two teams will play against each other.
In game one the Colts were unable to secure the win after letting up a seven run inning late in the game. Losing 16-4 the Skylanders scored the first two runs of the game early in the first two innings, Sussex County Community scored seven runs on four hits in the top of the sixth inning. The Colts were able to put three runs on the board to cut their lead to within 10.
#45 Anthony Borromeo suffered the loss for the Colts, the right-handed pitcher threw for two innings, giving up two runs on three hits, striking out three and walking zero. The Colts amassed nine hits in the game, Charlie Gargulio drove the middle of the lineup. The 1st baseman finished the day as the with two runs batted in after going 1-for-2 at the plate. Center Fielder #2 Jackson Atwell led the way in hits after going 3-for-5 while scoring a run. #1 AJ Grant and #27 Brian Saldana each collected multiple hits for the Colts.
After a twenty day hiatus the Colts and Skylanders faced off for the second time. On Friday April 25th the Colts traveled to Sussex County and looked to secure the win on their opponents home turf.
Unable to keep up with the early success by the their opponent the Colts suffer their second loss to the Skylanders after getting outscored 14-3. Sussex County Community College ended this game the same way they started it, scoring six runs in the bottom of the second inning and then scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to secure their victory.
Despite the loss the Colts showed their grit and toughness until the very end. in the third inning of the game the Colts scored their first runs after Brian Saldana doubled on a hard groundball to left field driving in teammates Ronnie Anzovino and Jadin O'Neil, the Colts continued their success inside the batters box in the fourth inning after holding the Sylanders scoreless and managed cut the lead down to three runs.
With the wind on his side and with one out, a 1-0 count #24 Ben Intili smashes his first colligate home run as a SUNY Orange Colt on a high fly ball deep over the left field fence to make it a 6-3 game.
Pitcher Evan Johnson earned the loss for the Colts. The left-handed starter threw for five innings, giving up six runs on seven hits and walked three batters.
#27 Brian Saldana drove the middle of the lineup and led the way for the Colts with two runs batted in, the number three hitter went 1-for-4 on the day. #5 Jadin O'Neil led the way for the Colts with two hits in four at bats. Defensively the Colts turned one double play.
Tuesday April 29th the SUNY Orange Colts finished their three game series against the Skylanders. In this game the Colts were the ones to jump out to an early lead, in the bottom of the first inning after Brian Saldana singled on a hard groundball to right field driving in teammate Jackson Atwell. The Colts then scored their second run after Jonas Kerzner hit a hard groundball reaching first base on an error driving in Jadin O'Neil.
The Skylanders were able to rally back in the top of the second inning cutting their lead down to one but was not enough as the Colts answered right back with a run of their own after Michael Fontaine singled down the left field line driving in Phillip Scuderi from second base.
After three scoreless innings the Skylanders earned their first lead of the game in the top of the sixth inning. After getting outscored sixteen to three in the last three innings of the game the Colts suffer their third double digit deficit to the Skylanders.
In this game there were seven different pitchers on the mound for the SUNY Orange Colts, Michael Fontaine takes the loss for the Colts. The right-handed pitcher went for one inning, surrendering one run on one hit, striking out one and walking two. Kody Best started the game for the Colts as the righty pitcher gave up four hits and one run over three innings, striking out two batters and walking none. The Colts amassed twelve hits, Jackson Atwell led the Colts in hits. The leadoff hitter #2 finished the day going 4-for-five with a double, Michael Fontaine led the Colts with three runs batted in.
This was the last home game that the Colts would play this regular season finishing with a record of 4-10 at home.
