Baseball Drops to Ulster
Suffern, NY - The SUNY Orange baseball team fell to Ulster County Community College in the second round of the Region XV playoffs, 12–11.
The Colts came out with energy quickly bringing in five runs in the first inning thanks to RBIs from Ryan Fernandez (Highland Mills, NY / Monroe-Woodbury), Garrett Srednicki (Warwick, NY/ Warwick), AJ Grant (Highland, NY / Highland) and Thomas Grogan (Newburgh, NY / Marlboro). Ulster responded by driving in three runs.
In the second inning the Colts added one run thanks to an RBI from Michael Fontaine (Wappingers Falls, NY / Beacon), Ulster took the lead after bringing in six runs to bring the score to 9-6.
In the fourth inning the Colts drove in two more runs off RBIs from Jackson Atwell (Newburgh, NY / Beacon) and Fontaine. The Colts added two more runs in the fifth after Nikolas Marrero (Middletown, NY / Minisink Valley) walked to bring in one run, and Atwell scored on a wild pitch.
The Senators drove in one run in the sixth to bring the score to 10-10. In the eighth inning the Colts added one run off an RBI single from Grant. Ulster responded by bringing in one run to tie up the game at 11-11.
In the closing inning the Senators secured the victory bringing in one run.
Alex Sanchez (Middletown, NY / Middletown) got the start on the mound for the Colts, facing 37 batters while allowing five earned runs and recording three strikeouts. Anthony Borromeo (Beacon, NY / Beacon) made an appearance in relief, facing 14 batters, allowing two earned runs, and striking out one batter.
Sophomores Jackson Atwell and AJ Grant were named to the Region XV All-Tournament Team.
