Colts sweep Monroe Express

On Tuesday April 15th the SUNY Orange Colts hosted the Express of Monroe Universirty - Bronx. This is the second time this year these two teams faced off as the Colts got the better of Monroe defeating them in both games.
In game one the Colts took care of business after a massive third inning where the Colts scored five runs on just three hits. Nicole Imhoff singled driving in two runs on a fly ball to center field, Sydney Benware singled on a ground ball to center field driving in one run and Emily Ketcham finished off their scoring spree with a two run double on a line drive to the center fielder.
The Colts defeated Monroe University by a score of 8-0.th
Gianna Catletti earned her fifth win on the year. the right handed hurler threw for 4.2 innings surrendering four hits while giving up zero runs. Catletti also tied her season high in strikeouts, striking out nine batters and only walking one.
The Colts were a force to be reckoned with inside the batters box. Nicole Imhoff and Sydney Benware were a fantastic one-two punch in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for the Colts. Ketcham, Imhoff and Benware each drove in two runs, Hannah Moulton paced the Colts with two walks. Overall, the Colts had great patience at the plate drawing seven walks. With their amazing work at the plate the Colts did not commit a single error in the game and Lindsay Keane led the way with the most chances in the field with 10.
Game two, the Colts earned the win in exciting fashion. In the bottom of the fifth inning with one out and a runner on third base the Colts led by a score of 8-2 with a chance to end the game. The number three hitter #24 Gianna Catletti stepped up to the plate and after looking at the first pitch ball Catletti smashed the very next pitch deep into center field for a walk-off homerun her first homerun of the season and her twelth of her career at SUNY Orange.
The Colts got off to a hot start in the bottom of the first inning after three consecutive singles Lindsay Keane was able to drive in the first run after drawing the walk with the bases loaded. Hannah Moulton and Sydney Benware each drove in a run and Nicole Imhoff drove in two runs to give the Colts a 5-0 lead. In this game the Colts tallied 15 hits, Gianna Catletti provided pop in the middle of the lineup and led the Colts with three runs batted in, the third baseman finished 2-4 on the day. The number seven hitter Sydney Benware led the Colts with three hits in three at bats. Emily Ketcham, Madeline Roberts, Nicole Imhoff and Lindsay Keane each collected multiple hits for the Colts.
Sydney Benware earned the win for SUNY Orange, the started gave up eight hits and two runs over five innings, striking out six batters and walking none. Once again the Colts defense did not commit any errors with Caroline Farrell making the most played behind home plate with eight.
The Colts will host the Sharks of Suffolk County Community College as they will celebrate their five sophomores in this years Sophomore Day on Saturday April 19th.
