Colts secure their 10th win in a row after sweeping the Falcons of Dutchess County
In this game sophomore Gianna Catletti reached a career milestone. After a deep fly ball into left field Gianna collected her 100th hit as a SUNY Orange Colt.

The SUNY Orange Colts sweep the Falcons of Dutchess County Community College in two games. Taking care of business in game one, the Colts put the first points on the board after almost three full innings of both teams being scoreless. Gianna Catletti opened the game with an RBI single on a line drive to center field bringing in speedy outfielder Hannah Moulton who scored from first base. The Colts continued their scoring in the bottom of the third inning after Sydney Benware smashed an RBI double after a deep fly ball into right center field, Sydney would come around and score the third run of the inning from a Caroline Farrell RBI single to right field.
The Colts continues to in their next plate appearance in the bottom of the fourth inning. To start things off Hannah Moulton singled on a ground ball up the middle. Up to plate is sophomore #24 Gianna Catletti as she looked to make history, with 99 career hits Gianna was one swing away from doing something a Colt athlete has not accomplished in the past decade. After taking the first pitch for a ball the starting pitcher smashed a high fly ball into right center field that one hops the fence for her second single of the game and advances a runner into scoring position.
Catletti earned the win for the Colts, the right handed pitcher allowed five hits and zero runs over seven innings while striking out eight and walking none. The Colts tallied 12 in the game, Gianna Catletti and Sydney Benware each collected three hits in the game. Benware led the Colts with two runs batted in, the first baseman went a perfect 3-for-3 for the day with two singles and a double. Canter fielder Hannah Moulton collected two hits in three at bats for the Colts.
In game two the Colts took the late lead and defeated the Falcons by a score of 7-6. The Colts snatched the lead after trailing 6-5 in the bottom of the sixth inning Gianna Catletti crushed a two run double to give the Colts a two run lead to go into what could be the last three outs of the game. The Falcons were the first to score in this game in the top of the first inning after a costly error made by the Colts they found themselves trailing by two runs early in the game. In the next half inning the Colts earned their first lead of the game with a 3-2 score after Gianna Catletti doubles on a line dive to center field. Nicole Imhoff soon would reach base after looking at ball four, with runners on first and third Sydney Benware doubles on a line drive to center field scoring both runners. After earning their first lead of the game the Falcons tie the score at 3-3 in the top of the second inning.
After going scoreless in their next plate appearance the Falcons managed to break up the tie and extended their lead to two runs. Sydney Benware singled down the right field line to keep the Colts alive and tie the game at five runs in the bottom of the third inning. After 10 runs scored by both teams in the first three innings of the game both the Colts and Falcons were held scoreless until the Falcons scored what would be their last run of the game to make the game 6-5 in the top of the sixth inning.
In the bottom of the sixth inning the Colts needed two runs to regain their lead. Caroline Farrell started things off after singling on a line drive to left field. After an error by the Falcons Gianna Catletti stepped up to the plate with two outs and runners on first and second, Catletti did what she does best and doubles on a line drive driving in both runners to give the Colts the late one run lead.
The Colts were three outs away from earning a 10 game win streak. Pitcher sydney Benware earned the win for the Colts, allowing 11 hits and six runs (four earned) over seven innings striking out six and walking none.
Catletti and Benware each drove in three runs for the Colts, Benware went 3-for-3 on the day for the Colts and finished an amazing 6-for-6 batting 1.000 and led the Colts in hits for the day.
In their two game series against the Falcons Pitchers Gianna Catletti and Sydney Benware did not walk a single batter in a total of 14 innings.
The Colts will host the the Mustangs of Monroe University on Wed. April 23rd.
