Softball Dominates Westchester Community College
Middletown, NY - The SUNY Orange softball team took down Westchester Community College in a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 15. With the final score being 24-4 and 24-0.
Game One- SUNY Orange (24) - Westchester (4)
The Vikings came out strong, plating three early runs, but the Colts answered immediately with a dominant 10 run rally in the first inning.Hannah Moulton (Minisink, NY / Minisink Valley) set the tone by scoring following a wild pitch. Alissandra Soto (Middletown, NY/ Middletown) added another run on a wild pitch, whileAudrey Reeves (Wallkill, NY / Willkill) drove in a run with an RBI single.Nyla Sepulveda (Bronx, NY / Cornwall) and Moulton each drew walks to force in additional runs. Soto came through again with a RBI triple bringing in three more.Taylor Horaz (Cornwall, NY / Cornwall) capped off the inning by driving in one more run.
In the second inning the Colts added two more runs after Sepulveda was hit by a pitch to bring one run in and Moulton walked, adding one more run.
The Colts drove in another six runs in the third inning. Reeves doubled to bring in two runs. Bridget O'Leary (Fishkill, NY / John Jay) added an RBI single and Horaz doubled bringing in three more runs to bring the Colts to a 18-3 advantage.
In the fourth the Colts added six more runs, thanks to an RBI single from Alexandra Crushing, Reeves doubled to bring in two runs, Soto added another triple to bring in two runs and Horaz singles to left driving in one run.
In the fifth the Vikings scored one run, but the Colts secured their 24-4 victory.
Pitching for the Colts was O'Leary facing 23 batters, allowing four earned runs and striking out seven batters.
Game Two - SUNY Orange (24) - Westchester (0)
In the opening inning the Colts quickly set the tone bringing in 10 runs. Sepulveda started the scoring with an RBI single, Reeves with an RBI single, Soto doubled to bring in two runs. Horaz singled to center for an RBI, Ashley Quintero (Middletown, NY / Middletown) singled to center adding two runs and Reeves added another RBI single. O'Leary and Moulton both walked to bring in forced runs.
The Colts scored six more runs in the second thanks to RBIs from Caitlyn Higby (Minisink, NY / Minisink Valley) , Reeves, Sepulveda, and Horaz.
In the third inning the Colts brought in seven runs off RBIs from Soto, Horaz, Sepulveda, Chasity Mendoza (Middletown, NY / Middletown), and Crushing. The Colts added one more run in the fourth after an RBI single from Horaz.
Pitching for the Colts was Horza, facing 19 batters with no earned runs and striking out nine batters.
The Colts are back in action on April 21, as they travel to Dutchess Community College.
