Baseball Falls to Rockland
Middletown, NY - The SUNY Orange baseball team fell to Rockland, 17-5, on Tuesday, April 20. With the loss, the Colts drop to 3-14 on the season, while the Hawks improve to 10-22.
Rockland set the tone early, getting on the board in the second inning with two runs and added four more in the third to take the 6-0 lead. SUNY Orange responded on the third when Jackson Atwell (Newburgh, NY / Beacon) delivered an RBI single, and Michael Fontaine (Wappingers Falls, NY / Beacon) followed with a three-run home run to cut the deficit to 6-4.
Rockland added to its lead with a run in the fourth, then pulled away in the sixth with four more. The Hawks sealed the win in the eighth, scoring six runs, while SUNY Orange managed just one in the inning asThomas Grogan (Newburgh, NY / Marlboro) came home on a wild pitch.
Fontaine got the start on the mound for SUNY Orange, facing nine batters while allowing one earned run and recording a strikeout. AJ Grant (Highland, NY / Highland) followed, facing 16 batters and allowing four earned runs while striking out two.
Shaun Misczuk (Port Jervis, NY / Port Jervis) faced eight batters, allowing four earned runs and one strikeout, while Michael Schnitzer (Wartsboro, NY / Monticello) faced eight batters with three earned runs and one strikeout. Jacob Morino (Goshen, NY / Goshen) also made an appearance facing six batters allowing two earned runs.
Next up, the Colts will play host to Westchester Community College on Thursday, April 23 at 3:30 p.m.
