Region XV Championship Game Against The Generals of Sullivan County
The SUNY Orange Colts took on the Generals of Sullivan County for what was the third time this season. Out of all three games the Colts played their best when it mattered most but unfortunately was not enough and lost by a score of 76-57 and were named the Region XV Division II Runner-Ups. "Fell short of the goal but super proud of this group, they fought from the beginning to end - the upside of this crew is amazing!! Can't wait for next season!" says head Coach Micah Brand as his team did nothing but prove people wrong, finishing 2nd in the conference with a record of 8 wins and 13 losses. The Colts finished their season in what was their best overall team shooting performance that they have had all year. Going up against a tough Sullivan defense the Colts seemed to find holes in their defense and were able to capitalize. As a team the Colts finished with a 35.8% Field Goal Percentage, 28.6% 3 Point Percentage and a phenomenal 60.7% from the Free Throw line. Despite their tough loss the Colts saw some upside with three individual athletes scoring double digit points. Sophomore,
#3 Liliana Ramirez from Middletown, NY earned herself a spot on the 2024 Region XV All-Tournament team. Ramirez finished with the performance of the night scoring 16 points while shooting 50% in both Field Goal Percentage and 3 Point Percentage while also going 5-5 shooting 100% from the Free Throw line, she also added 10 rebounds to her fantastic night notching her final double-double of the season. Liliana also dished out 3 assists, came away with 2 steals and blocked one shot.
#23 Victoria Harrison from Grandiner, NY also earned a spot on the Region XV All-Tournament Team as she finished with the game as the leading scorer for the Colts scoring 18 points. In the last 6 games Harrison has really made a name for herself and proved why she plays in a SUNY Orange uniform scoring 78 points while shooting 43% in a season that took a while for her to find her groove as she scored just 66 points in the first half of the season through 11 games. Along with the great scoring performance Harrison added 5 rebounds, 3 steals and two assists to the great performance.
#10 Jaylen Soltani from Poughkeepsie, NY was the third athlete to score double-digit points scoring 17 points and Soltani's second consecutive game where she scored 17 points. To add to her great scoring performance Soltani added 2 steals, 3 rebounds and one steal.
This game was the first time the Colts have reached the Region XV Championship since the 2019 season and as the program has had trouble staying together this team has a lot to look forward, with just two Sophomores that will be graduating and moving on Coach Brand hopes to be bringing back the remaining Freshman on the team and keep the chemistry that they have and grow off of that. With the end of the Women's Basketball season the Colts will be looking on to next year and finish what they were so close to achieving.
