Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Rockland Community College to Pick Up First Win of the Season
Middletown, NY - The SUNY Orange women's volleyball team defeated the SUNY Rockland Hawks on Thursday night by a score of 3-0. The Colts now move to 1-1 in the early season and the Hawks move to 0-2.
The Colts came out strong to take control early and maintained the lead throughout the first set, finishing with a dominant 25-11 win that set the tone for the rest of the match.
The Hawks tried to get into the rhythm in the second set, but the Colts kept up the pressure. They finished the set 25-15 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The third set proved to be a more difficult battle for the Colts. The Hawks took the lead early, forcing the Colts to take two timeouts. The Colts were able to get their rhythm back and pull away late to take the set 25-20 and complete the 3-0 sweep.
It was a strong game for freshman Angelina Rivera (Paramus, NJ/Minisink Valley) who led the team with 13 points, seven kills and two digs. Freshman Isabella Messina (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) contributed 10 points, 17 assists, and eight digs.
Next up, the Colts play host to Dutchess on Thursday, September 18. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm.
