Poughkeepsie, NY – The SUNY Orange women's volleyball team opened the day with a strong 3-0 sweep over Borough of Manhattan Community College. In their second match, the Colts battled hard but came up just short, falling 3-2 to the Fashion Institute of Technology.
Match One- SUNY Orange (3)- Borough of Manhattan (0)
The Colts kicked off their day with a dominant 3-0 win over the Panthers. SUNY Orange started strong, taking the first set 25-15, and kept up the pressure in the second set with a 25-5 victory. The third set was the most competitive, but the Colts battled through and closed it out 25-21 to complete the sweep.
For the Colts, sophomore Lily Noteboom (Goshen, NY/Goshen) led the team with 12 points, five kills with three digs. Freshman Angelina Rivera (Paramus, NJ / Minisink Valley) contributed eight points, six kills, and seven digs. Freshman Janis Miola (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) also added eight points, six kills, and two digs.
Match Two-SUNY Orange(2)- Fashion Institute of Technology(3)
The first set was a back and forth battle, with both teams exchanging points throughout, but the Colts pulled through in the end to take it 25-22. The Tigers answered in the second set, taking control and winning 25-17. They continued to dominate in the third set with a 25-15 victory. SUNY Orange bounced back in the fourth, regaining rhythm to win 25-21 and force a fifth set. However, the Tigers didn't let up and closed out the match with a 15-7 win.
Rivera had 23 points with 17 kills, and 22 digs. Notboom contributed 14 points,11 kills, and 20 digs. Sophomore Camryn Benjamin (Walden,NY/Valley Central) added 10 points and five kills.
The Colts remain on the road for their next match against Ulster County Community College on Tuesday, October 7th. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM.
